The political party type is used for any organized political group that primarily aims for the attainment of political power and public office for its designated members. This type includes both active and inactive political parties.

Note: This type also has a property for "country"; this is important to fill in because there are many parties with the same or similar names operating in different countries.

• Transnational political parties (e.g. Arab Socialist Action Party, Natural Law Party)

• National political parties (e.g.Christian Union, Italy of Values, Peoples Reform Party, Lithuanian Christian Democrats)

• Local and sub-national political parties (e.g. Tasmanian Greens, Stockholm Party)

• Political parties with military branches (e.g. Hezbollah, Hamas)

• Co-type with military combatant.

• "Independent," in the sense of lacking membership in, or affiliation with, any political party. Any property that has /government/political_party as an expected type should use has_no_value to express lack of party affiliation.

• Groups of political parties such as multi-party coalitions (e.g. Jamhoori Ittehad, United Democratic Madhesi Front, Party of European Socialists, United Progressive Alliance)

• Use the organization and membership organization type for these.

• Factions within a party or sub-organizations of a political party (e.g. Labor Right, Green 2000, Cornerstone Group, Ferguson Left, New Alliance)

• Use the organization type for these.

• Youth wing of any political party (e.g. PerspectieF, Communist Youth League, Juventud del Poder Popular)

• Use the organization type for these.

• Associations of political parties and political internationals (e.g. Alliance of American and European Democrats, Pirate Parties International, Socialist International)

• Use the membership organization type for these.

• Political movements and pressure groups (e.g.Six Point Movement, National Political Association "Çamëria", Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, Women’s Electoral Lobby)

• Use the organization type for these.

• Legislative and executive bodies that make up a government (e.g. Council of the District of Columbia, Riksdag, Landtag of Liechtenstein)

• Use the governmental body type.

• Government agencies (e.g. Intelligence Bureau, INSEE, Jobcentre Plus)

• Use the government agency type.

• Individual persons who are members of political parties (e.g. Jacques Chirac, Mohan Rawale, Fausto Bertinotti)
