The Government agency type is used for any agency operated by the government. These are government units responsible for administering specific functions for a government.

• Government agencies established by a national government (e.g. Swedish Medical Products Agency, French Agency for Employment, Jobcentre Plus)

• Government agencies established by a state or local government (e.g. Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives, Department of Natural Resources and Water)

• Government departments (e.g. United States Department of Energy, South African Department of Health, Philippines Department of Agriculture, Columbia Administrative Department of Security)

• Government ministries (e.g. New Zealand Ministry of Education, Chinese Ministry of Public Security, Egyptian Ministry of Education)

• Government agencies that are also parent or sub-agencies. (e.g. The United States Department of Homeland Security is a parent agency of FEMA ; the Federal Aviation Administration is a sub agency of United States Department of Transportation)

• Bodies that constitute a government such as legislatures and courts (e.g. Riksdag, Landtag of Liechtenstein, Chamber of Deputies of Tunisia, Texas Supreme Court, U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts)

• Use the governmental body type.

• Government legislative committees and subcommittees (e.g. United States House Committee on the Judiciary, Comision de Salud, Committee on Legal Affairs)

• Use the legislative committee type.

• Associations and organizations (e.g. American Library Association, United Nations Children’s Fund, National Association of Latino Organizations)

• Use the organization type for these.

• Military forces of a nation (e.g. Turkish Armed Forces, Vietnam People’s Army, Australian Defence Force)

• Use the armed force type for these.
