Google+ is a multilingual social networking and identity service owned and operated by Google Inc. It is the second largest social networking site in the world. As of May 2013, Google+ had a total of 500 million registered users, of whom 235 million are active in a given month (reference Wikipedia).

Google+ page is a page created in Google+ network to represent a person, organization, product, brand, sport and others. One can categorize Google+ pages into the following levels of how they represent real world entities:

• official - created and updated by the person/organization official representative.
• unofficial - fan clubs, pages about persons/brands/etc created by content aggregators, spammers, location information for tourists, etc.

When you see a Google+ page you need to ask yourself 2 questions if you are reconciling the page to a Freebase topic:

1. What is this Google+ page about?

2. Is this Google+ page official?

##How to determine Google+ page type? go to the table of contents

Check "About" tab of the Google+ page.

There will be a description of the page, links to the website and other helpful information. Read this information and check the website (if needed) to determine what Google+ page is about. Here are the most common types of Google+ pages

1. Person. Google+ page is about a person and may have personal posts from this person. For example, Madonna - Google+ page for singer Madonna.

2. Organization. Google+ page is about organization with organization contacts and external links, may have posts about organization news. For example, Google.

3. Organization branch. Google+ page is about local branch of an organization. It is not the same as organization type, for example: AXA Ukraine is a local Ukrainian branch of international insurance company AXA.

4. Company web-service. Google+ page is about online service provided by some company. For example SpringerOpen - online portfolio of Springer with an access to journals and books.

5. Product. Google+ page is about a consumer product, for example Android.

6. Brand. Google+ page is about a brand, for example Lacoste.

7. Tourism information. Google+ page is about a city or other location and has useful information for tourists. For example, Discover Ireland, Google+ page with the guide to the island of Ireland.

##How to detect official Google+ page? go to the table of contents

1 - Check if Google+ page name is verified. Most official pages have verified names. Google+ pages with verified name has this icon, for example:

2 - Go to "About" tab and read contact information. For official page contact information belongs to the person or organization responsible for this page.

3 - Check "Links" section on the "About" tab. If links redirect to the official website or other official sources Google+ page is official.

Things that are an official Google+ page:

• Page for a person managed by this person or official representatives
• Page for an organization managed by official representatives of this organization
• Page for a product/product line managed by official representatives of the organization produced this product/product line

Things that are not an official Google+ page:

• Page for a popular person managed by a content aggregator company and created for advertising purposes
• Page for a sports team/musical artist/film/etc managed by fans
• Page for a product/service/etc managed by its users
• Page for a location tourist promotion (even if it looks like an official website for a location)

Google+ page name is verified. There is no contact information on the About tab so we need to check the links. Links are:

• official website http://www.madonna.com
• official Youtube channel http://www.youtube.com/madonna
• other official links to different social networks, store and other sources

So this is an official Google+ page for a person.

There is a corresponding topic in Freebase: https://www.freebase.com/m/01vs_v8 (Madonna).

About confirms that it is a Google+ page about an organization called Manhattan Construction Group.

Google+ page name is not verified however phone and email belong to the company, website is official.

So this is an official Google+ page for an organization.

The corresponding topic in Freebase is https://www.freebase.com/m/045c7b (Google).

About confirms that it is a Google+ page about Ogilvy South Africa - an organization branch of Ogilvy & Mather.

Google+ page name is verified and phone numbers are official (the same as on the official website). There are also links to the official website, official blog and other official sources.

So this is an official Google+ page for an organization branch.

Freebase search by Ogilvy South Africa returns only https://www.freebase.com/m/05qsqw (Ogilvy & Mather). However this topic represents a parent company and differs from Ogilvy South Africa. So there is no corresponding topic in Freebase for Ogilvy South Africa.

There is a topic in Freebase about island of Ireland https://www.freebase.com/m/012wgb but it is not the same as this G+ page. There is no corresponding topic in Freebase for the web-source Discover Ireland.

There is Freebase topic called Manchester United (https://www.freebase.com/m/050fh) but it is about football club itself. And it is not the same as fan club. There is no Freebase topic for the fan club http://manchesterunitedforum.org.

So this is an unofficial Google+ page for the Peugeot 308 and official page for the web-source http://www.308ownersclub.co.uk.

There is Freebase topic called Peugeot 308 (https://www.freebase.com/m/0cwgk2) but since the topic is about automotive model is it not the same as fan page http://www.308ownersclub.co.uk. There is no Freebase topic for the fan page of Peugeot 308 http://www.308ownersclub.co.uk.

Google+ page name: Вера Брежнева (Vera Brezhneva)

The page is in Russian but it says "official page" and is about Russian singer Vera Brezhneva however the website redirects to Youtube channel called ELLO. ELLO is one of largest music aggregators in Russia.

So this is an unofficial Google+ page for Vera Brezhneva.

There is Freebase topic for Vera Brezhneva (https://www.freebase.com/m/04ctl0f) but since Google+ page is unofficial one. So Freebase topic https://www.freebase.com/m/04ctl0f is not the same as Google+ page https://plus.google.com/+ВераБрежнева.

Google+ page name: Lady Gaga Fan Page

According to the about this is a fan club for Lady Gaga. So Google+ page is an unofficial page for Lady Gaga.

Google+ page looks like an official one, it even has the name verified. However About doesn't say anything except for the website. If we check this website http://www.lafranceforte.fr we'll be redirected to the political party website (UNION POUR UN MOUVEMENT POPULAIRE). And Google+ posts are about Nicolas Sarkozy presidential campaign. So we can say that Google+ page is an unofficial page.
