I have opinions. I try to base my opinions on my basic values and moral framework. But much of the time (most?) I base my opinions on my gut feeling at the time. Welcome to the human race.

But, since PP: Nothing Matters, values and moral frameworks are purely a human mental construct, devoid of any kind of absolute meaning. Thus, I might say that humanity has "gotten better" over the past few hundred years by making most forms of slavery illegal. My values say that slavery is bad.

But that value hasn't always been widely held. A thousand years ago, slavery was just a fact of life. I suspect that few people wanted to be slaves, although they probably would have preferred that to starvation, but holding slaves was not widely considered immoral. It's what the victors did.

So, have we "advanced" in our morals? Or are we just different? Or is it all meaningless, and why am I wasting time thinking about it when I've already decided that nothing matters?

Well, it matters to me, and that's good enough for me. As it happens, it seems to matter to quite a few people throughout history. I think we are evolutionarily predisposed to care about morals. Many people have constructed moral frameworks from some set of first principles. And it's probably a good idea to review the frameworks that are widely-regarded as influential. And maybe I will review them someday. But I've played with trying to develop my own moral framework from a set of first principles, and I don't think I have the right kind of mind for it. I get bogged down. So I'm mostly going with the moral framework that I learned from my childhood influencers (parents, teachers, peers, etc), and trying to make sense out of the world from there.

So yeah, even though I don't believe in PP: God, don't believe that humans are particularly special, and don't believe anything really matters to the universe, I have values and opinions. So, for example, in my opinion, humanity is morally better now because most people oppose slavery. (But not a lot better; see PP: People Suck.)
