If everybody is worried about the Covid-19 virus, why are healthcare workers asking everybody to make sure they stay up-to-date with flu shots?
They're trying to save your life. Just do it.
Here's the thing. For most people, Covid-19 is not deadly. You'll feel sick, and probably you'll get over it and be fine. Sound familiar? Kind of like flu. Many people don't get flu shots because they aren't that afraid of flu.
What puts you at risk of a serious illness? Having Covid-19 at the same time that you have something else. Like the flu. Either one alone might just be an annoyance, but both together might require hospitalization.
"But the flu shot doesn't work! Lots of people get the flu after getting the shot!"
Maybe. Maybe not. A lot of people think they have "the flu", but they don't really have influenza. And even if it really is the flu, it's all about the numbers. If getting the shot cuts your chances in half -- which would be a very bad protection rate -- it has the ultimately desired effect of SLOWING DOWN the spread within a population. So if everybody gets the shot, everybody (including you) will benefit, no matter what your personal outcome.
