Download QSL - foldynl/QLog GitHub Wiki
The Download QSLs function only retrieves the confirmation status of QSOs from particular services (i.e., whether a QSL card has been received or not).

Only QSL Status is downloaded.
QLog can download QSLs for every callsign in the logbook by selecting the βAll Log Callsignsβ option.
LoTW DXCC Credits
LoTW DXCC credits are imported by a separate service action: Service β Download LoTW DXCC Credits.
This function downloads the DXCC award credits that have already been granted in the selected LoTW DXCC Record and adds them to matching QSOs in the current logbook. The imported values are stored in each QSO's ADIF CREDIT_GRANTED field and are used by QLog's DXCC Submission List.
This is different from Service β Download QSLs. Downloading QSLs updates QSL confirmation status, while downloading DXCC credits updates award-credit information. It does not download new QSOs, mark QSOs as confirmed, submit QSOs for DXCC credit, or apply for an award.
Note: The LoTW DXCC credit service returns granted credits from the DXCC Record. These credits may have been granted based on either LoTW confirmations or paper QSL cards.
For more information about the data supplied by LoTW, see Querying LoTW for DXCC Credits.
Requirements
Before using this function:
- Configure the LoTW username and password under
FileβSettingsβSync & QSLβLoTW. - The logbook must contain at least one QSO with a valid
My DXCC Entityvalue. QLog uses this field to determine which local DXCC entities are available for selection. - The LoTW DXCC Award Account for the selected entity must have a DXCC Record containing granted credits. See Setting Up an LoTW DXCC Account for details about DXCC Award Accounts and DXCC Records.
The TrustedQSL application and a callsign certificate are not used for this download. QLog connects directly to LoTW using the configured LoTW username and password.
Downloading the credits
- Select
ServiceβDownload LoTW DXCC Credits. - Select the local DXCC entity whose credits should be downloaded.
- Wait while QLog downloads and processes the records.
- Review the
LoTW DXCC Credit Import Summary.
The entity list is built from the My DXCC Entity, My Country, and Station Callsign values already present in the logbook. If the logbook contains QSOs made from more than one DXCC entity, each entity is shown separately. Run a separate download for each entity.
The station callsigns shown in parentheses are provided only to help identify the entity. The selected My DXCC Entity, rather than Station Callsign, is used to restrict the download and match local QSOs.
QLog requests the complete granted-credit list for the selected DXCC Record each time. There is no date-range option. Running the function again does not duplicate credit tokens: QLog merges new credit values with those already stored.
How QLog matches a credit to a QSO
The LoTW DXCC credit report does not always identify a single QSO. For example, its CALL field may contain a callsign, an abbreviated prefix, or only a numeric DXCC entity code. It provides a QSO date but not necessarily a time. QLog therefore uses the following matching process.
A local QSO is a potential match only if it matches all available information in the downloaded credit record:
- Local DXCC entity: The QSO's
My DXCC Entitymust match the DXCC Record selected for the download. - QSO date: The logged date may be the reported date, the day before it, or the day after it. QSO time is not used.
- Band: If LoTW supplies a band, the QSO band must match.
- Worked DXCC entity: The QSO's worked DXCC entity must match.
- Propagation mode: If supplied, it must match. A
DXCC_SATELLITEcredit is treated asSAT. A non-satellite credit without a propagation mode will not be matched to a QSO whose propagation mode isSAT.
Satellite name is not part of the match because it is not supplied by this LoTW credit report.
QLog then tries to identify the station and mode in this order:
- Match the full callsign and the reported mode or DXCC mode group.
- If no QSO is found, match the full callsign without using mode.
- If still not found, treat the reported callsign as a prefix and repeat the mode and no-mode attempts.
- When LoTW supplies no callsign or uses a numeric entity code as the callsign, match using the worked DXCC entity instead.
LoTW mode groups are mapped to QLog's DXCC groups: CW remains CW, PHONE remains Phone, and DATA and IMAGE are treated as Digital. If no QSO is found using the reported mode or mode group, QLog retries without mode.
If the criteria match more than one local QSO, QLog applies the granted credit to all of them. This is intentional because older DXCC records may identify a credit only by a prefix or entity rather than by a complete callsign. The import does not require the QSO's paper-QSL or LoTW-QSL received field to be set.
Important: Review the import summary, especially when the logbook contains duplicate QSOs or several QSOs with the same station on nearby dates. Because the LoTW credit report can contain limited identifying information, one downloaded credit can update more than one local QSO.
Changes to the logbook
QLog merges the downloaded ADIF CREDIT_GRANTED tokens into the matching QSO's existing Credit Granted value. Examples of the standard tokens include:
DXCCβ basic or Mixed DXCC creditDXCC_MODEβ CW, Phone, or Digital mode creditDXCC_BANDβ band creditDXCC_SATELLITEβ satellite credit
Existing credit tokens are preserved, and duplicate tokens are removed regardless of letter case. The download does not change CREDIT_SUBMITTED, QSL-received status, callsign, band, mode, date, or other QSO information. It also does not remove a locally stored credit when that credit is absent from a later download.
The Credit Granted column can be enabled in the Logbook by right-clicking the column headings and selecting it from the column list.
Import summary
After processing, QLog displays four totals:
- Downloaded: The number of DXCC credit records returned by LoTW. This is not the number of QSOs downloaded.
- Updated: The number of local QSO records whose
Credit Grantedvalue changed. This can be greater thanDownloadedwhen a credit matches more than one QSO. - Unmatched: Credit records for which QLog could not find a local QSO.
- Errors: Credit records that could not be processed, or database updates that failed.
Records that already contain all of the downloaded credit tokens are counted as downloaded but not updated. Updated and unmatched records appear in the Details area. When a credit updates more than one QSO, the matching QSO date and time are included with each update.
The summary shows the error count but does not list individual error records in the Details area. If errors occur, enable or review the QLog debug log for the underlying parser or database messages.
An unmatched record is not necessarily a problem with LoTW. Common reasons include:
- The credited QSO is not present in this QLog logbook.
- The local QSO has a missing or different
My DXCC Entity, worked DXCC entity, band, callsign, date, or satellite propagation mode. - The local QSO date differs from the credit date by more than one day.
- LoTW supplied an abbreviated callsign or entity-only record that still could not be identified in the logbook.
No local QSO is created for an unmatched credit. Correct or import the QSO, then run Download LoTW DXCC Credits again.
Warnings and errors
| Message or result | Meaning and suggested action |
|---|---|
LoTW is not configured properly |
The LoTW username or password is missing. Enter both under File β Settings β Sync & QSL β LoTW. |
Cannot determine a local DXCC entity from logbook contacts |
QLog found no QSO with a valid My DXCC Entity. Check the station profile used by the QSOs and correct or re-import the affected records. |
Unknown DXCC Entity in the entity list |
A numeric My DXCC Entity is present, but QLog has no My Country text to display for it. Verify the entity before continuing. |
Cannot load local DXCC entities from the logbook |
QLog could not read the entity list from its database. The remainder of the message contains the database error. Restart QLog and check the debug log if the problem continues. |
Incorrect login or password |
LoTW rejected the configured credentials. Verify the LoTW account username and password. The username is usually, but is not always, a callsign. |
LoTW DXCC credit import failed: followed by a network error |
The request failed because of a network, TLS, HTTP, or LoTW service error. Check the Internet connection and retry later. |
LoTW returned a non-ADIF response, or LoTW response text is displayed |
LoTW returned an error or information page instead of a credit report. Read the displayed LoTW text for the cause. Verify the credentials and that the selected entity has an appropriate DXCC Record. |
Incomplete LoTW DXCC credit response |
The download ended without LoTW's end-of-file marker. No credits from that response are imported. Retry the download. |
Cannot open temporary file |
QLog could not create a temporary file for the downloaded report. Check available disk space and access to the operating system's temporary directory, then retry. |
Unmatched is greater than zero |
One or more downloaded credit records could not be matched to a local QSO. Review the Details area and the matching rules above. |
Errors is greater than zero |
A downloaded record was missing required QSO_DATE, CREDIT_GRANTED, or CALL/DXCC information, or QLog encountered a database query/update error. Check the QLog debug log for additional information. |
Selecting Cancel while the progress dialog is open stops the operation. If the operation is canceled, QLog does not display an import summary.
