An operator can define rules that will trigger an alert in QLog. The rules can be added/updated via clicking on the bell (right bottom corner of the Main Window ) and selecting Edit Rules.
The alerts are

shown in the Alert Window; Callsign order is given by this approach. If the Callsign does not exist in the list then it is added to the first position. If it already exists, only the "Updated" count is updated (its position is not changed). The sorting in the window can be chosen by the user. Double-clicking will tune the DX frequency as requested. The specific tune process depends on the information source. When using a DX Cluster as the source, only the frequency and Callsign are used. When using WSJTX, tune is made within the WSJTX application.

shown as native operating system notifications when Notification Popup is enabled for the rule.
Notification Popup
- Enable - shows a native OS notification when the rule matches.
- Sound - requests the OS notification sound when checked, or a silent notification when unchecked. QLog does not offer a custom sound. The OS controls the sound, volume, and Do Not Disturb.
- Test - sends a test notification using the current Sound setting.
- Notification Dedup - sets the time in minutes before the same rule can notify again for the same callsign, band, and mode. A spot on another band or mode can notify immediately. The default is 5 minutes. This only limits OS notifications; matching spots still appear in the Alert Window.
The rule can define matching parameters for these fields from DX Station:

| Member | If the main checkbox is unchecked then Club Membership information is not evaluated. |
The rule can also define matching parameters for Spotter:

Log Status
Enable Log Status to filter by DXCC progress in your log. When disabled, log status is ignored.

DXCC has not been worked - matches a DXCC entity you have not worked for the selected
Band / modeoptions. - DXCC has not been confirmed - matches a DXCC entity you have not confirmed for those options. Confirmation sources are selected in Settings.
- Band / mode - checks all bands and modes, the spot's band, the spot's mode, or the spot's band and mode.
For a custom selection, choose Selected DXCC statuses.... The Custom Log Status Condition dialog lets you select:
- New Entity - DXCC entity not worked yet.
- New Band - DXCC entity not worked on the spot's band.
- New Mode - DXCC entity not worked in the spot's mode.
- New Slot - DXCC entity not worked on the spot's band and mode combination.
- Worked - worked, but not confirmed for that band and mode.
- Confirmed - confirmed for that band and mode.
A spot matches if it has any selected status. Use OK to apply the selection or Cancel to keep the previous settings. Use Edit... to change a custom selection, or choose a standard condition to return to the band and mode options.
