FOI Magazine is a self-published boudoir and fashion photography magazine and digital platform based in Kolkata, India. It was founded in 2017 by photographer Sourish Mukherjee, under the creative studio brand Face of India (FOI) Studios, with the mission of showcasing bold, artistic representations of beauty through photography.
Under Mukherjee’s leadership, FOI has grown into one of the leading names in Indian fine-art and boudoir photography. It operates primarily via Patreon, where monthly digital magazines (FOI Zines) are released featuring high-resolution photo collections and uncensored behind-the-scenes content.
History
FOI Studios (Face of India) was founded in 2017 by Sourish Mukherjee in Kolkata. It started as an independent creative hub focused on blending art, culture, and innovation in photography. In a country where boudoir and nude art were still largely taboo, FOI’s focus on boudoir, implied, and artistic nude photography made it an early pioneer.
Mukherjee’s emphasis on empowerment and consent built a strong community around FOI. In 2017, FOI Studios launched its Patreon, creating a new subscription-based model for digital distribution of FOI Magazine.
A major milestone came in mid-2024 with Whispers of the Harem, an elaborate boudoir project inspired by Mughal-era opulence and female empowerment, which garnered national media attention and cemented FOI’s reputation.
As of 2025, FOI Studios is now one of the top 100 creators worldwide on Patreon in the arts & photography category.
