Ingredients:
- 1 x DolphinEar DE-PRO balanced hydrophone (This is the best hydrophone we could find on a low budget (<£300) - be aware that good hydrophones can cost >£1,000, and you should choose a hydrophone that is appropriate for your interests http://www.dolphinear.com/pro.html). [£280]
- 1 x Pre-amp for balanced microphones (e.g. https://www.tascam.eu/en/ixz.html) [£49.99]
- 1 X USB sound card to provide audio input for the Pi (e.g. TechRise USB Sound Card) [£10.99]
- 2 x small cable ties (e.g. for a pack of 100 https://www.toolstation.com/cable-tie-natural/p44922) [76p for 100]
- 1 x small fishing weight (e.g. 3oz version https://www.tackleuk.co.uk/Shop/SeaFishingWeights/Plain-Beach-LeadBomb-4oz.htm) [55p]
- 1 x small float (e.g. a milk bottle with a handle would do the job, or some corks strung together) [free!)

Instructions:
If it comes fitted with an Apple style 4-ring minijack plug, the Microphone preamp may need to be adapted. Cut it off and fit a normal 3 ring stereo mini jack plug on the end instead.
The hydrophone should be fitted with a small fishing weight and a float, attached to the cable using cable ties. These help to keep it under water, and the location can be adjusted depending on your needs.
