Installing FFR (Windows 7 and later) - flashflashrevolution/rCubed GitHub Wiki

  1. Go to https://www.flashflashrevolution.com and click on the blue 'Download FFR' button, or go to https://www.flashflashrevolution.com/download.

  2. Select an engine build with a bitness your version of Windows could handle (32-bit or 64-bit?), and click on its 'Download' button. A zip file should be downloaded onto your computer.

  3. Type 'File Explorer' (Windows 10, 8.1 and 8) or 'Windows Explorer' (Windows 7) into the Start Menu and open it.

  4. Go to the directory containing the downloaded zip file. Right-click the zip file and click on 'Extract All...' (without 7-Zip) or '7-Zip' > 'Extract files...' (with 7-Zip).

  5. A window should pop up. Pick a destination to extract the files to. Click on 'Extract'. (I can't extract the files!)

  6. Navigate to the directory containing the extracted files. Click into the extracted folder, and then click into the folder there.

  7. Double-click on the FFR executable to start the game. It should have a logo like the one from the website.

  8. If a window saying 'Windows protected your PC' pops up, click on 'More info'. The window would then display a few buttons. Click on 'Run anyway'.

  9. The game should now be running for you! (Help! It doesn't run!)

  10. Save time with an FFR shortcut: Right-click on the FFR executable, then click on either 'Pin to Start' or 'Pin to taskbar'. You can then run FFR by clicking on its icon in the Start Menu or taskbar without opening the folder containing it every time.

Frequently asked questions

32-bit or 64-bit?

64-bit Windows could run both the 32-bit and 64-bit engines, but 32-bit Windows may only run 32-bit engines.
To check whether the version of Windows you're using is 32-bit or 64-bit, follow these instructions:

  1. Click on the Start button to open the Start Menu. The button is located in the taskbar and has the Windows logo.
  2. For Windows 10, 8.1 and 8, type 'Settings' and open it, then go to 'System' > 'About'; for Windows 7, right-click 'Computer' and select 'Properties'.
  3. Under 'Device specifications' (Windows 10, 8.1 and 8) or 'System' (Windows 7), look for 'System type'.

I can't extract the files!

If you need to enter administrator credentials to extract the files to the directory you've chosen but you don't know what they are, or if you can't extract them there, try selecting a different directory (e.g. C:\Users\<your_username>\Desktop).

Is FFR a virus?

No, it is not. FFR's source code is available for everyone to review and audit, as can be seen here. We have not put any code that would damage or destroy your computer, nor do we steal your data when you play FFR.

Errors when running FFR

A version of Adobe AIR could not be found!

If the game doesn't start and you get the following error, check whether you've done common mistakes 1-2.
Error: This application requires a version of Adobe AIR which cannot be found. Please download the latest version of the runtime from http://www.adobe.com/go/getair, or contact the application author for an updated version.

FFR can't run on my PC!

If the game doesn't start and you get the following error, check whether you've done common mistake 3.
Error: This app can't run on your PC. To find a version for your PC, check with the software publisher.

My antivirus blocked FFR from running!

If you're using an antivirus program (Windows Defender, Avast, Bitdefender, ESET, Kaspersky, Malwarebytes, McAfee, Norton etc.), there's a chance it would flag the FFR executable as a virus, even though it isn't. When it does that, you may notice any of the following:

  • FFR is blocked from starting up.
  • FFR runs successfully for a few times, but suddenly you can't run it again.
  • The game files are deleted after running FFR.

To stop your antivirus from preventing you to play FFR, you'd need to make an exception for FFR in your antivirus program's settings, and you might need to reinstall FFR if your antivirus deleted it.

Common mistakes

Mistake 1: Run the game with files moved outside the zip folder (e.g. putting just the FFR executable into the 'Program Files' directory).
Solution: Place all those files back into the zip folder.

Mistake 2: Click into the zip and run the game there OR run the game without extracting all files from the zip.
Solution: Follow steps 4-5 to extract the files.

Mistake 3: Use a 64-bit engine on 32-bit Windows.
Solution: Download a 32-bit engine.
