Closing Installation Issues - firedrakeproject/firedrake GitHub Wiki

The Firedrake installation script changes very frequently due to:

  • Sheer number of dependencies which are updated.
  • Changing hardware and different platforms.
  • Different compilers.
  • New dependencies or features.

As a result installation issues and discussions will be closed after (approximately) 6-months of inactivity. After this length of time the installation procedure will almost undoubtedly have changed and the suggested course of action is to download the latest version of the install script and try installing using that.

Policy:

After ~6-months of inactivity on any issue regarding installation, the issue may be closed by a developer. In such cases the developers should endeavour to justify the closure of the issue and/or link to this page.

If your issue has been closed without resolution, you are kindly asked to try installing Firedrake using the latest version of the installation script, following the directions on the Firedrake website.

If you are still experiencing problems, please create a new issue with the exact details of the error. Link to the previous closed issue only if the error is the same, or the discussion relevant.

If you believe that your issue has been closed in error, you are of course welcome to reopen it. In this instance please provide a short explanation to help developers why you are reopening the issue.

The above is phrased in terms of closing Github issues, but the same policy may also be applied to resolving Github discussions.

This policy has been discussed informally in the past, this page functions as a more formal point of reference for this policy.
