Self employed status: how to get the same rights as an employee? - field-engineer/workmarketplace GitHub Wiki
We had the chance to meet Hind Elidrissi, co-founder of WeMind at the Freelance Fair . Having managed to bring together a community of 11,000 freelancers (even before the launch of the platform), she tells us more about the concept of WeMind and its community.
Hi Hind, what is the concept of WeMind?
WeMind's goal is to simplify the life of Contingent Employment freelancers by simply grouping together. When we move from wage labor to self-employment, we lose a lot of benefits such as social security and the ability to find housing. With the WeMind community, we have significant bargaining power (imagine a company with 11,000 employees). We can get in touch with several health, real estate and banking players in order to create new services dedicated to the self-employed. WeMind is also a community of mutual aid where we stand together: we answer many questions from freelancers on their status and their rights. It is intended to evolve according to the needs of the self-employed.
How do these solidarity services work?
The contribution is determined by an algorithm based on your age and your income. Currently, for example, we offer a mutual that reimburses as well as a CAC 40 company. It guarantees 100% of income in case of sick leave. We also propose a works council and a housing guarantee which allows to rent without having a CDI.
What are your development prospects?
We want to help freelancers in their daily lives. We will continue to use our bargaining power to motivate the various players to change the game. We also plan to facilitate access to bank loans so that freelancers can carry out their projects. Then, for our future projects, it is especially up to our community to decide them!
What advice would you give to someone who wants to start freelancing?
I will advise to check with experienced freelancers in the field of expertise that we have chosen, for example web development, graphics. When one is freelance, one can not reason like an employee: it is not enough to have skills, one must also know how to sell oneself. This way of thinking is acquired with experience and each job has its own specificities. There are different courses for freelancers like Freelance Boost, Soto or Mutinerie School. But in addition, it takes time to interact with people who live their freelance work, they are best able to give the appropriate advice to succeed as a freelancer.
