Mode Backgrounds and Transitions - fe-art/Toolscreen GitHub Wiki

Changing a Mode's Background

To change a mode's background from the default purple, go to Advanced > Modes, select the mode you want to change, and open the Background section.

There are three background types:

  • Color - A solid color. Use the color picker to select any color.
  • Gradient - A gradient with multiple colors and animations. Configure the colors, positions, and animation style.
  • Image - A static image, GIF, or video file. Press the Browse button to open a file picker and select a file.

After selecting your background, go back to the game to see the change.

Supported file formats:

  • Regular image files (PNG, JPG, etc.)
  • GIF files (animated)
  • MPEG files (experimental, added in 1.2.8)

Each mode has its own background setting, so repeat the process for each mode you want to customize. Check out the community backgrounds section on the Toolscreen Discord server for ready-to-use backgrounds shared by other users.

Resize Animations and Transitions

By default, resize animations are enabled but only on OBS. On your screen, mode switches are instant. There is a setting under Advanced > Settings to enable the animation in-game as well, but this is not recommended because frequent mode switching during runs would be distracting.

Disabling Resize Animations Entirely

If you want to remove the animation from OBS as well (so it's instant everywhere):

  1. Go to Advanced > Modes and select the mode you want to change.
  2. Open Transition Settings.
  3. Change the Type to Cut.

This affects transitions that go to this mode. If you want instant transitions for everything, you need to go to every mode and set its transition type to Cut.
