Sega Mega Drive & Genesis Classics contains 58 classic titles developed and/or published by Sega for the Sega Genesis (also known as the Sega Mega Drive). The collection can be purchased on Steam here.

This collection contains two separate, mostly overlapping, sets of ROMs. One set is contained in a folder on-disk, readily available to play in a third-party emulator. The other set requires a third-party tool to extract the ROMs out of their proprietary containers. Each set contains ROM variants not present in the other set.

This collection was also released on disc in Europe in 4 volumes (volume 1, volume 2, volume 3, volume 4), and altogether in the US and Europe under the name Sega Mega Drive/Genesis Classic Collection Gold Edition.

ROM Extraction Instructions

Preliminary steps for Disc version

The largest executable on the disc (SCCGE.exe for the US version) can be extracted in a temporary directory with 7z, for example 7z.exe x \path\to\SCCGE.exe on Windows, or 7z x /path/to/SCCGE.exe on Linux or macOS.
This will unpack PDF manuals under the manuals directory, and a number of PAK files under data/Volume* sub-directories.

Set 1 (Uncompressed ROMs)

Copy the "uncompressed ROMs" folder inside your Sega Genesis Classics install to a location elsewhere on your hard drive.
(optional) Change the file extension of all files ending with .68K and .SGD to end with .bin instead.

Set 2 (PAK Files)

Download PscdPack and open the application.
For each .pak file inside the "data" directory of your Sega Genesis Classics install, do the following:

Press the "New/Open" button and select the .pak file you want to extract.
Press the "Extract ROM" button and save the ROM in a directory of your choosing.

NOTE: In order to save time, you may wish to extract only the ROM variants that are exclusive to Set 2. See the "ROMs Exclusive to Set 2" section below.
