Startup is all about getting hand dirty - exiang/startup-resources GitHub Wiki
Events like spark & startup weekend have successfully created many aspiring entrepreneurs, but majority of them has problem moving forward in validation and product development stage. These founder wannabe are stuck.
They are not lack of ideas, but definitely lack of hard technical skill that is required to MAKE THINGS HAPPEN. Some think validation is all about sending out survey. But in reality, validation is more, founder needs to grow hack their startup to validate; and this is not something you can easily cut into pieces for outsourcing.
Startup is innovation driven entrepreneurship.
Idea is cheap, implementation is what matters. Now, most people gets the idea, but they still resists to get their hand dirty. They hope to be lucky and get a tech guy to help them cover this part. Perhaps some established ‘celebrity startups’ here set a bad example. Startup founders should be makers too.
When is the last time you start making things yourself? This is a skillset we take for granted when young, and start faded after graduated. Everybody can be a maker, we needs the environment to encourage it. My son just made a paper aeroplane this morning, but will he willing to do this if I just fulfil his wish with a ready made toys using money?
Perhaps this is the reason where there are many idea guys in the ecosystem, lots of talks but little action. Without this fundamental skill, knowing what can or cannot be done, every idea seems possible. Without this fundamental skill, founder misjudge the resources to realise an idea. Without this fundamental skill, we always face shortage of CTO/developer in the ecosystem.
Be a maker first if you want to be an innovation driven entrepreneur. In my next article, I will talk about the different of SME and Startup in detail.
