10x developers are 10 times more efficient than an average developer. This is not a myth, but they are rare.

This isn’t unique to programming. Would you rather have 10 average scientists or 1 Albert Einstein?

Programming is not manual labour intensive works. However, most HR failed to understand this. They think programmer are someone they can manage like a reception staff. They are wrong when they try to measure a programmer performance thru attendance like on-time check-in at 8am and sitting in front of computer for 8 hours. Afterall, you know how good a person can act showing busy and taking credit from others, if not work in MNC before but an university group FYP tell it all.

Project Manager hates and likes 10x developer. 10x developer is hard to 'tame', and he only give respect to 10x project manager. Commonly, 10x developer is accused for not being a good team player, this is definitely true if he is the only 10x developer in the team where the rest are just average joe taking credit from his work.

Why would he wanto contribute more if the system do not recognize him and treated him same with others who is less efficiency or worst: stupid and lazy in his perspective? On top of that, HR only offered paid base on age and year of experience.

Hence, most 10x developers can't stay in a traditional corporate environment. This mismatch of old system with talent is one of the major reason why startup exists.

So for non tech founder out there, if you happens to get a 10x developer, do not force him to team up with an average joe. Instead, trust him 100% and let him build his own tech team.

However, 10x developers are rare. Most who think they are may be just a result of developer ego. Modern day great software project required team works, you can go fast with 1 10x developer, but definitely not far.

Of course, best if you can get 10x 10x developers working together seamlessly :)
