FAQ - ericswpark/awipe GitHub Wiki
Why is awipe not available on the Google Play Store?
I've tried getting the app listed on Google Play. Unfortunately, the process for listing the app on Play is time-consuming and complicated, and I'm not willing to expend the effort to change the package name because Google doesn't want the android
moniker in it, or make an entirely new app icon because the default app icon isn't accepted, or make promotional screenshots and videos, and so on and so forth.
In addition, it doesn't make much sense for users to download awipe from the Play Store. To download an app from the Play Store, the user needs to be logged in, which means the Google Account credentials will be written to the local storage of the device. awipe is designed to be run on a clean slate (i.e. factory reset) so signing in to download it just doesn't make sense. Also, awipe is easier to download and install if it's just hosted here on GitHub - you don't have to go through the Google sign-in process and look for 2FA tokens and so on. You just grab the APK, install it, and run it. It just can't be any easier.
