Assignment #2: Hand Drawing

Part 1: Create a technical drawing
Using your mechanical toy from last week and your digital calipers, make a drawing on an 8.5x11" sheet of paper of at least three sides of your toy at 1:1 scale. Include as many views of the toy as needed to properly illustrate the design/dimensions of the toy. To do this, take measurements from the toy with the calipers, and then slowly make pencil marks using construction lines on your paper. Make the lines darker once they are finalized.

Your drawing must be:

  • Hand drawn
  • Include at least 3 orthogonal views
  • Dimensions of all critical dimensions (length, height, width)
  • Dimensions of at least 3 more details
  • Callouts of any mechanical/electrical components
  • Titleblock including the name of your toy, your name, the date, what scale it is in (1:1), and the class number

Here is an example drawing:

Scan or take a clear photo of your drawing and save it as "A2_[name]_[toy name]” (for example, "A2_JoshCorn_MTATrain.jpg"). S

Part 2: Disassemble your toy (Extra Credit)
SAFELY disassemble your toy, and knoll the components across a clean surface. If you don't have the appropriate tools, do not take a kitchen knife or other inappropriate tool to the toy! You can bring your toy in to school and use the tools we have on hand next week. Take a photo of the all the components and label them clearly with a descriptive name. See below for an example.

Send your scan and optionally your disassembled toy to me as a DM on Slack before the beginning of class on 09/16
