The StoryWeaver is you - the wandering, weaving heart of Threadbare's last hope. Equipped not with sword or shield but with Memory, Imagination, and Spirit, the StoryWeaver journeys out from Frays End through fraying lands to gather lost stories and stitch them back into the world. They are part historian, part adventurer, part stubborn dreamer; the kind of person who hears a half-finished tale and cannot rest until the ending is found. Where they walk, the Void grows a little less certain of itself. Where they sit and listen, threads remember how to weave.

Many StoryWeavers

There have been many StoryWeavers, and there has only ever been one of each. The role is not inherited, and it is not passed from parent to child or from teacher to student. Each StoryWeaver arises in their own time, from their own place and people, unrelated to any who came before, and usually by circumstance long before choice. What they share is not blood but a calling: whenever the Weave is in need, someone takes up the thread.

The Calling

Every StoryWeaver is made in the Summoning Square of WeaveWater, on the Sacred Sewing Machine, a machine built not by the FirstSpun or the Elders, but by ordinary Threadlings. A StoryWeaver cannot be called by one Threadling alone. When a community is in great need, it hangs a Calling Cloth, and every Threadling sews a single stitch into it and pins on a scrap of something they could not finish. When enough hands have stitched, the KnitWitch of WeaveWater begins the long ritual on the Sacred Sewing Machine, and it sews a StoryWeaver from those scraps through the night.

Every other being in Threadbare was woven. A StoryWeaver is sewn, pieced together from the world as it already is, and carries a little of everyone who called for them. This is why no two StoryWeavers are ever alike, and why every one of them feels, without quite knowing why, that they owe something to people they have never met. Every StoryWeaver is sewn in WeaveWater, and not one of them stays.

The StoryWeaver of the Threadbare Plot was sewn from one great Calling Cloth, stitched together in WeaveWater from Calling Cloths sent by towns all across Threadbare, in the Summons for a StoryWeaver, while the KnitWitch Wist WishWeaver kept watch, and woke to a world in peril.

The Elders remember every StoryWeaver there has ever been, and keep their stories. They are careful never to tell a new StoryWeaver that they are like any of the others, because they never are.
