"A fire is only wood until someone sits down beside it. A people is only strangers until someone sits down beside them." -- Kindle
Identity
Kindle is a child of Ever, and the Elder of community. He lights the first fire in a new camp, sets the extra place at the table, and makes sure no one at a gathering is left standing at its edge. Wherever strangers meet in Threadbare, Kindle has a way of turning up, and by the time he leaves, the strangers are usually friends.
Kindle is bright, busy, loud of laugh and quick of hand, and utterly impossible to refuse. He has little patience for grand speeches and a great deal for small kindnesses.
Stitching Strangers into Kin
Kindle is known across Threadbare for stitching strangers into kin. It began in the scattered settlements at the edges of the Fraying, where families driven from their homes by the Void arrived with nothing and no one. Kindle met them on the road, walked them into the nearest village, and did not leave until each had been given a place and a neighbour.
Depictions
Kindle wears the colours of the order under a patchwork shawl, each patch given by a different community he has joined together. He carries a small lantern and a large cooking pot. His book is a guest book, signed by thousands.
Narrative Function
Kindle is a wandering Elder, and a natural presence at gatherings, feasts, festivals, and any place where Threadlings are coming together, or need to. He embodies Ever's gift in its most everyday form: showing up for one another.
For contributors, Kindle is a patron for the Threadbare community itself: shared work, collaboration, and every learner helped by another.
