A master chronology is the mean of each year in a raw ring width measurement file data frame. The master chronology is also often subsetted to exclude sample depths of less than x (often 5 or 6). This is due to the fact that a reliable mean cannot be calculated with a sample depth of less than 5.

For my honours, I will be the the chron function in the dendrochronology package for R dplR which calculated the mean chronology size for a given year, given the sample depth is >5.
