File Extensions to Sort

If you only want to sort certain file types and ignore other types, you can use this.

Settings Controlling Updating of Date Taken Metadata

These settings control when the internal metadata of items are updated. It is recommended to leave both of these settings on.

Update DT Metadata on Sort, If Modified or Has None

If this is enabled, when the current item is sorted, if you changed what its Date Taken should be, then it will run exiftool when the file is moved to have it update the internal DT metadata. If you send the item to the Unknown Date Taken folder and this setting is enabled, any metadata it has is removed using exiftool. If this setting is disabled, the item's internal DT metadata will not be affected. This should always be enabled, because if you give this item a new Date Taken in the GPO GUI (thus controlling where it's sorted) you more than likely want its internal DT metadata to be created/updated to reflect this. Also, if you tell GPO you either don't know its DT or it doesn't have one, you would more than likely want any existing metadata to be cleared.

Update DT Metadata If Has None, but Has Filename DT

If this is enabled, if the current item does not currently have internal DT metadata but it does have a filename Date Taken, when the item is sorted, its internal DT metadata will be updated with the DT from the filename. If this is off or the item had metadata DT (not from the filename), this setting has no effect. This setting was made for when you have a file with a name like IMG_20210512_120126.jpg which has a recognizable filename timestamp, but no internal DT metadata. If this setting was enabled, the metadata would get assigned to 5/12/2021 12:01:26. This setting should also always be on, because having internal DT metadata is important, especially if these files are going to be sent to someone else or uploaded to something like Google Photos.
