AutoSort Settings and Setup - ellman12/Graphical-Photo-Organizer GitHub Wiki

AutoSort Setup

AutoSort is pretty simple to setup and has several options to customize how it sorts the folder.

To set AS up, first pick your source and destination folders. Then, go to Settings and enable AutoSort. All the default settings are probably what most people would use, but I recommend checking them ↓ out anyways.

Action to Take When no Date Taken Found

There are three different actions AutoSort can taken when it encounters an item with an Unknown Date Taken.

Send to the Unknown DT Folder

If AutoSort encounters an item with an Unknown Date Taken, it will be sent to the Unknown DT Folder automatically.

Pause and Prompt for a New Date Taken

If AutoSort encounters an item with an Unknown Date Taken, it will pause and prompt the user to ask what they want done with the item. They can Skip it, Delete it, send it to the Unknown DT Folder, or give it a Date Taken and sort it like normal.

Skip the Item

If AutoSort encounters an item with an Unknown Date Taken, it will Skip the item and leave it where it is.

When Should DT Warnings Be Shown?

When I was developing and testing GPO, I encountered some files of mine (usually memes) that had absurd Date Taken metadata, with years like pre-2000s, 1970, or with years even earlier than that. This can help you catch these during an AutoSort session so they don't get sent to folders where you wouldn't want them. During AutoSort, if the setting is on, and the item's DT Year is less than and/or greater than the value(s) in Settings, AutoSort will pause and display the item and ask the user what they want to do with it. You can enable none, one, or both before starting AutoSort. 2000 is the default value for the less than check, and the current year is the default value for the greater than check.
