How to get thumbnails from cover art for mkv files in dolphin - eitan-j/tech-journal GitHub Wiki

This is simple but I'm writing it down in case it resets or something.

  • edit /usr/share/thumbnailers/ffmpegthumbnailer.thumbnailer
  • add -m
  • remove -f just because i don't like the movie strip effect
  • close file browser
  • rm -r ~/.cache/thumbnails/*
  • I have not done anything useful
  • just switch to a different file manager
  • It's still not working
  • I think it's something with mkv files
  • TODO
    • try to install kffmpegthumbnailer again
  • g'nite

Testing

  • /usr/share/thumbnailers/ffmpegthumbnailer.thumbnailer is definitely responsible for thumbnailing
    • renaming it to ffmpegthumbnailer.thumbnailer.bak makes thumbnails stop showing up
  • /usr/share/thumbnailers/ffmpegthumbnailer.thumbnailer does nothing
    • it can be removed without any effect
  • No video thumbnails appering
    • Video not in from previews settings page
      • Added ,ffmpegthumbs to /home/user/.config/dolphinrc
      • Restarted (there is probably a service that can be restarted or something instead)
