What about those edge cases? Who is OAS not aimed at? - echolevel/open-amiga-sampler GitHub Wiki
We know there are Amiga users out there who don't use trackers and perhaps aren't interested in the sound quality compromises that trackers require composers to make. We feel that anybody who uses their Amiga for 12, 14 or 16-bit sampling, perhaps in stereo with a view to high-quality or mixed-stereo playback on an accelerated machine, and maybe even through a clockport or Zorro sound card that uses the AHI drivers and bypasses Paula's DMA channels (other than to drive its PWM output), is not the target user for this device!
Those users probably already have the equipment they need; we don't seek to diminish what they do, nor insult them by pretending our design is any use to them, and we wish them well! Indeed constructing a setup like that is quite an achievement, considering the scarcity of Delfina, Toccata and similar high-end sound cards. Some people even use a Mediator busboard so they can run Soundblaster 16s and other PCI cards of the era!
So if you've got this far through the documentation, it shouldn't be a surprise that we're not even pretending to offer that kind of quality or cater to that adjacent - but very different - use case :)
