Class Notes Week 1 Day 2 - echadbourne/ChadbourneSYS-140 GitHub Wiki

In class today was the setup for all of the virtual machines that we will be using in class later on. VMs that were set up include Windows 10 in VMWare Workstation, and the browser based virtual machine VDI which also runs Windows 10. Important information to note is recorded in this Wiki entry.

Pretty much everything went as expected in this lab. Some things to remember would include:

  1. VMWARE is the application on the lab computers in which we set up a few virtual machines, including Windows 10 and Ubuntu Linux. You can open up preset Virtual Machines from here or you can set up new ones
  2. VDI is a broswer based virtual machine that runs a slightly different version of Windows 10. It can be accessed through a student account on Chrome, this seems to mean that I can get to it from any computer. It can be accessed through the link viewportal.champlain.edu
  3. It appears that the system information is different from the host system, to each of the different virtual machines. This would make sense, but I wanted to make a note of it anyway.

Extra Notes:

  • I mostly had no trouble setting up either of the virtual machines. There were some more problems with the Ubuntu one however, and these included: - The folder that a copied from the directory on the computer, from the same place as the windows one, seemed to not work for setting up the virtual machine (maybe I needed to do something different?) but I was easily able to download it instead - I didn't know which download to click, but I had seen somebody else do the top one so I did that one - Some of the steps were in a different order, or simplified, when setting up the VM. Not really a problem, but something I wanted to note.

I did this on another machine earlier today, so that helped. If this was my first time doing it I'm sure I would have had more problems.

There aren't really any other definitions to record, so I guess I'm ending this here!
