Flash the Internal SD Card from a USB Drive using SD Card Copier
This guide explains how to use the SD Card Copier tool on your sBitx to flash the internal SD card when booted from a USB drive.
This eliminates the need to open the case and remove/re-insert the SD card.
Requirements:
Your sBitx with USB boot enabled. See here for the process - USB Boot Setup
A 32GB or larger USB drive flashed using the procedure at - Flashing the SD card
Procedure:
Please ensure that you've backed up your sBitx data files first. See HERE for details.
- Download and install the latest sBitx img file on a USB drive
- Follow this procedure HERE and select the USB drive
- Boot from USB Drive (This will take about 30 seconds)
- Insert your USB drive to the sBitx and power it on.
- Ensure the sBitx boots from the USB drive and is functioning correctly.
- Open the SD Card Copier Tool
- On the desktop, click the Raspberry Pi icon (left corner) to open the main menu.
- Navigate to Accessories and select SD Card Copier.
- Select the Source and Destination
- Source: In the SD Card Copier window, select your USB drive as the source device. This is the drive you're currently booted from.
- Destination: Select the internal SD card as the destination device. This will be the SD card that’s inserted into the sBitx SD card slot. it is named "/dev/mmcbkl0"

- Wait for the Process to Complete
- The SD Card Copier will now clone the USB drive to the internal SD card. This may take some time depending on the size of the data and the speed of the SD card and USB drive.
- Once the process is complete, a notification will appear.
- Power Off the sBitx
- After the process is complete, safely shut down the sBitx. You can do this from the desktop by clicking on the Raspberry Pi icon and selecting Shutdown > Shutdown.
- Boot from the Internal SD Card
- Remove the USB drive and power the sBitx back on. It should now boot from the newly flashed internal SD card.
