Rela - Dr. Dinesh Oh my god, I see your leg so bloated.I asked Amma to take off the socks and show this dude the result of their actions and a compelling evidence of withholding diuretics for so long. He recovered a bit and said this may be the next stage of the evolution of the liver problem, which touches other systems. I said, " We will see. ". You are not getting the message. I said I am getting it. I also want to watch what happens to the creatinin level in a week. If I maintain the same (my baseline) I would be happy if not...I let it hang open. Then he did something strange in a very rude manner that upset Janu. He said the only option is to do a live transplant within 4 months. I nodded my head and got out. I told Janu that I felt much stronger than before and let these not affect you. But it did. When reporting to Dr.MSV she cried. He only saw a cheerful Amma. He was deeply affected himself. Let me fix an immediate appointment and he did. We are going to see Raghu on the 26th, my 75th birthday. Kind of irony, isn't it? I told Janu, let us not get too sentimental about this. Nothing will happen to me except a few blips like these incidents. Yeah, she said, "You bounced back from every such incident." some within hours and some within days. What did I learn?

  • Highly recommends liver transplant from a live donor ideally within 4 to 6 months
  • Rules out diseased live transplant with my blood type (O Positive) may take more than a year and he wants to see the transplantation done within 4 to 6 months.
  • What are the dangers of not doing a transplantation? I will continue to live like this with low salt diet and slowly degenerating liver. But all the three doctors in India and Arati have the same concern. One infection in the body may complicate matters. (Need to dig deeper into this).
  • Explanation of CTScan - a video animation shared with family and saved on the cloud.

Next Steps:

  • Discuss with MS and if necessary Dr. Raghu and switch to the new medications (already bought them)
  • Visit Dr. Dinesh on 22nd (next scheduled appointment).
  • Follow up with his Liver transplant team on the same day with more questions
  • Broad road map is meet with Dr. Rela (who will decided whether I need a liver transplant). Not sure whether this is after the battery of tests Dr. Dinesh mentioned or before.
