1910 Census: Mildred was 8 months old. She and her parents, Clyde and Florence, lived in her grandparents' rented house at 1502 Oregon Avenue in Steubenville, Ohio. Her father was an architect in his own shop, and her grandfather, Austin Heltman, was a carpenter. Her parents were 26 and 22 years old and had been married for a year. Her parents were both born in the United States, but her mother’s parents were from England.

1920 Census: Mildred’s family had moved to Pittsburgh. She lived with her parents, her brother Robert (age 6), and her grandmother Philinda, who was a widow. Her father was the manager of Repairwork Reality Co W. They lived at 1205 Brighton Road.

1929 Marriage License: Mildred married Milton Loehr on January 21st, 1929 in Wellsburg, West Virginia. Milton was 21 and Mildred was 19. They both lived in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, so it is unclear why they were getting married in West Virginia - maybe because Mildred was already pregnant with their first child and they needed to get married quickly. There is a note that Mrs. C.R. Heltman gave her consent by phone.

1930 Census: Mildred and Milton lived in the household of Milton’s parents. The household consisted of Reverend Charles Loehr, his wife Anna, their children Luther (age 24), Edith (age 22), and Milton (age 20), their daughter-in-law Mildred, and their grandson Milton Jr (7 months old). Charles and Anna owned their home on Liverpool Street and it was worth $12,000. Charles was a minister at the Lutheran Church. Luther was a clerk at the steel mill. Both Edith and Milton worked at the Hinge Factory, Edith as a stenographer and Milton as a clerk.

1940 Census: In 1940 Mildred and Milton were still living at 1418 Liverpool Street, but were listed as a separate household from Charles and Anna, and reported that they were paying rent of $15 a month. All of the other siblings seemed to have moved elsewhere. Milton Jr was 10. They had two additional children, Virginia (age 8) and Marjorie (age 1). Milton was a parker at a department store, worked 40 hours a week, and earned $1200.

1950 Census: Milton and Mildred had moved out of 1418 Liverpool Street by 1950. Milton worked as an attendant at a parking lot and worked 56 hours a week. They had 4 children at home, Virginia (age 18), Marjorie (age 11), Robert (age 8) and Paul (age 5). Mildred was asked additional questions on this form - she had a 9th grade education and her last job was as a clerk in a retail store. This was probably from before she was married at age 19.
