4.1 FTV: Advanced Troubleshooting - dikodahan/dikodahan.github.io GitHub Wiki

Known Issues

FTV is based on Android OS. Certain older versions of Android OS (Fire OS) do not support some of the apps presented here. This might appear as bugs in regular behavior. One known example; Sdarot app does not operate well with older Fire OS versions.

This section remains here to support legacy users still using a Fire TV based device. Please note that I do not recommend using Fire TV based devices anymore. Consider switching to a GTV/ATV device for continued support and enhancements.

Troubleshooting Options

Click on any one of the known issues/steps below to collapse its resolution steps.

Make sure to keep your FTV device updated to prevent potential Fire OS issues with the apps.
  1. From the FTV main menu > Settings > My Fire TV > About > check for updates.
    1. Install any potential updates available.

Since all the content in this guide are just regular android apps, if one of them is misbehaving, all you need to do is to Force Close the app from FTV and relaunch it.
  1. From the FTV main menu > Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Apps > [select the misbehaving app] > Force Close.

If you do not have enough free storage space on your device, it may trigger unexpected behavior by some of the apps.

This is because many of the streaming apps need some temp storage space for their streaming functionality to work properly. Make sure the delete old/unused apps from your device.

  1. If you're using the default Fire TV Home Launcher interface, run the following:
    1. In the top menu bar, go to Settings > Applications.
      1. NOTE! You can notice that you can immediately see how much available internal space you have left on the right hand side of the screen.
      2. Click on Manage Installed Applications > click on the app you wish to remove > Uninstall > Uninstall.
  2. If you're using the Wolf Launcher interface, run the following:
    1. Use the remote to move to the selected app to be removed so it is selected. DO NOT run it.
    2. Press the Menu button on your remote (the 3 lines button) > Uninstall > OK.

In a worst-case scenario, you will need to reset the FTV to factory default and start the guide from scratch.
  1. From the FTV main menu > Settings > My Fire TV > Reset to Factory Defaults > Reset.
