The instructions in the guide have missing steps or point to a location I cannot find.
Since I am not the CEO of either Amazon or Google (unfortunately...) I have no control over changes they inject every once in a while to their interface. Having said that, in about 90% of the cases the issue is not with a change in their UI, but rather you skipping steps and not following them properly.
The main reason for that is that some of the control apps have updates and you are not on the latest version or that you already went through this guide in the past and skip some parts in it as you did it "this way" the last time you ran the process.
I would highly recommend validating Misc apps versions, especially for Misc & Home Launcher apps as they do not auto-update. Their interface constantly change and update and I try to keep the instructions updated accordingly, which will look to you as if the instructions are wrong.
Make sure to head over to the Unlinked store and update the relevant apps before rerunning the steps you were running.
Now, in case it is a real mismatch on the instructions, there may be a bug or an actual interface change. Please let me know by either contacting me on the group chat or opening an issue for me here!
A certain streaming app is no longer working as well as it used to.
As stated in the beginning of this guide, some of these apps have a built in trigger to alert you of an update, some don't. As these apps are sometimes taken down and/or change their name/domain, it is recommended that you check the DIKO+ App Store in Unlinked (unless the app triggers notification for updates) once in a while for potential updates if you start noticing misbehavior issues with them.
Another option is to choose a different app from the same category.
When trying to update an existing app from the Unlinked DIKO+ app store I am getting an error message.
Some of these apps have their signature change between versions. This means that what usually should work as a simple upgrade for an existing app fails.
All you need to do is uninstall the app you were trying to install first before trying to install it again from the Unlinked app store.
Quick Reminder, use the remote to move over to the selected app to uninstall (without launching it!), long press the OK button, then choose Uninstall in the system menu.
The device I am using reverted back to the default stock Home screen interface after I changed it to Wolf Launcher by itself.
Please refer to my explanation here about this issue.
You can try to completely disable the auto-update of the Fire TV OS, as this issue is mostly a FIRE TV device problem. This may not work if your device is running a version that blocked this (as explained in in the above referenced explanation). If this is your preferred option to avoid the reset of the Home Screen from Wolf Launcher, follow these steps:
-
FTV DEVICES ONLY
- Press the Menu button on the remote to reveal the sidebar menu > Android Settings > Other Options > Amazon OS Updates > Disable System Updates.
When using the **Wolf Launcher** home screen, the remote seems to have stop responding.
There is currently a known issue (that will be fixed in a future release) where in some rare cases it will appear as if the remote is not responding. That is not really the case, it is simply stopped moving between the apps on screen. You simply need to trigger the side menu and exit it.
- First option to try on all platforms, press the Home button and see if it fixed the issue.
- On FTV devices:
- Press the Menu button (the 3 lines button). The side menu will appear. Exit the side menu by pressing the Back button.
- On GTV/ATV devices:
- Press and hold the OK button. The side menu will appear. Exit the side menu by pressing the Back button.
- If the above did not work, click on one of the Apps buttons (like Google Play or YouTube), after it loads click the Back button and it will be fixed.
You notice that ads have started popping up again in your streaming apps.
Some app updates specifically look for ad blocking apps and disable their functionality.
- Launch the Ad Guard app. make sure to enable the protection against ads.
- Scroll down twice and then once left to move the highlight to the Protection button. Click the OK button to enable it again.
Some apps that you chose to hide in the **Wolf Launcher** reappear out of the blue.
Sometimes during a device automatic OS update, if a specific app that you chose to hide gets an update, it will get a new app signature and therefore the UI does not recognize it as an app that needs to be hidden anymore.
- FTV ONLY! - Since some of the default stock apps got an update, they reappear and need to be "uninstalled" again. You can run the Debloat tool again to have them removed. Follow the removal of bloatware again in the FTV guide section.
- Follow section 3.1 links here based on your device type, FTV/ATV, for the instructions on how to hide an app.
**FTV ONLY!** After replacing the home launcher to **Wolf Launcher** I cannot search for a specific app in the Amazon app store.
The latest version of Launcher Manager has added easy access to Amazon's app store. The only caveat currently with the latest update is that you can not search the Amazon app store, but you do have access to all the categories and can find almost all apps in there.
Simply update the Launcher Manager from the Unlinked store to get access to it.
If you still need to specifically search for an app, the simplest way around it is to switch back to the Amazon stock home launcher, install the app you were looking for and return back to Wolf Launcher.
- Press the Menu button (the 3 lines button). The side menu will appear.
-
Re-enable Stock Launcher: Android Settings > Launcher Options > Enable Stock Launcher.
- This will re-enable the Amazon Stock Launcher. You will notice on the left side of the screen that the current launcher is KFTV.
- Press the Home button to exit to the Amazon's home screen.
- Install any apps that you wish to.
-
Re-enable Wolf Launcher: Launch the Launcher Manager app (looks like yellow settings wheel inside a blue box).
- Launcher Options > Disable Stock Launcher. You will notice on the left side of the screen that the current launcher is Wolf Launcher.
- Press the Home button to exit to the Wolf Launcher home screen.
Everything seems really slow and I am getting constant buffering when streaming content.
It may be that your internet signal on the device is not strong enough for the content you are trying to stream. The best analyzer tool specifically designed to give you a simple content streaming capabilities visualization is Analiti. Unfortunately, I can only show you how to see if you have a good connection on your device. I cannot help you in fixing it... :)
- Download the Analiti app from the DIKO+ app store.
- When launching the app it will automatically initiate a speed check and will show you a very clear output on which content quality is capable of streaming properly based on your device connection strength.
Another option for you to consider is leveraging Real-Debrid service, which is a paid service for a very small fee. Details are explained in Section 2.2 here.
I am getting low storage error messages on my device.
There are a few options to run through to make sure we clear up some space:
- Delete unused apps. Note that some system apps cannot be deleted, even if you are not using them.
- Press the Menu button on your remote for the side menu to appear > Android Settings > (FTV) Applications / (ATV) Apps [and then See all apps].
- Review all your installed apps. For any that are not needed, click OK to enter into details for it and select Uninstall. Confirm the uninstall request when asked to.
- Repeat the Uninstall process for each app that is not needed.
- Press the Menu button on your remote for the side menu to appear > Android Settings > (FTV) Applications / (ATV) Apps [and then See all apps].
- Delete Unused downloaded files from the Downloader app.
- Launch the Downloader app.
- On the left menu bar, click on Files.
- The system will List all installation packages in the directory.
- Press and hold the OK button on each file in there (you don't need any of them!) in order to delete them.
- On the left menu bar, click on Files.
- Launch the Downloader app.
- Delete stale files in your system.
- Launch the Unlinked app store and install DefSquid from the Tools & Utilities section.
- Launch the DefSquid app.
- If asked for permissions at any stage to access file system, select Allow.
- On the top menu menu bar, select Cleaner, then at the bottom select Start Cleaning Device.
- When you receive the Alert about deleting old APK files, select YES.
- This will automatically remove any stale files from your device.
- After a short run you will receive a message that the cleaning is completed with an indication of number of optimizations it made.
