Initial setup process
From the main menu, go to: Settings (top right corner of the screen; GTV: your google account icon / ATV: settings wheel icon) > System (GTV) / Device Preferences (ATV) > About > System update > Check for update.
Make sure to run the check and/or install any pending updates of the Android OS. You may need to repeat this step several times until there are no more updates available.
Set the following: Settings > System (GTV) / Device Preferences (ATV) > About > Build
You will need to click on the build number several times until you will get a message that developer mode is enabled.
Go back once, you now see you have a new Developer options available. Go to: Developer options > USB debugging > turn ON.
You will get a validation questing if you want to allow this, choose; OK.
ON GTV ONLY! – go to Settings > Apps > See all apps > Show system apps > Google Play Store > Permissions > make sure that Microphone is enabled. If not, enable it by choosing Allow only while using the app.
Go back to the main menu, open Apps > Search for apps (GTV) / Get more apps (ATV) > on ATV you also need to go to the top right side of the top menu bar, the magnifying glass and search: Downloader. On GTV it will immediately prompt you to search it. Make sure to install the app and open it once done.
It will ask you for permissions to access files on your device. Choose Allow.
Click OK on the quick start guide.
Make sure that the Downloader App that it finds is the one by AFTV News. Here is an example of what to look for (though it might look a bit different on your device a bit).
