Dicty cycD lacks the LxCxE "retinoblastoma-interaction" motif found in most D cyclins of animals and plants, although indirect evidence suggests that the LxCxE motif is functional in Dicty. Dicty cycD transcription does not appear to be changed in the rblA-null. Since most Dicty cell cycle genes are strongly overexpressed in this strain (Doquang et al, in preparation) this suggests that Dicty cycD is not involved in cell cycle regulation. Dicty cycD is upregulated 45x in development (9 hits in veg cells, 409 hits in early culminates in an RNA sequencing study); thus its main role may be in multicellular differentiation.
