Although the homology of DDB_G0269800 to CAF1, subunit B is weak, the assignment is supported by the fact that this gene is overexpressed sevenfold in a Dicty strain in which the retinoblastoma-like gene rblA is disrupted (Doquang et al, in preparation). Most genes with roles in S-phase or mitosis are overexpressed in this strain. Chromatin assembly is of course a part of normal DNA replication, and DDB_G0287815, provisionally assigned as CAF1, subunit A, is similarly overexpressed in the rblA null.

DDB_G0269800 has a PIP (PCNA_interacting) domain, as does human caf1.
