8. Biosafety waste disposal guide - dfierros/cohen_lab GitHub Wiki

Biosafety is the same as medical waste for disposal purposes. When the boxes with the red bags under the TC Hoods get full, the biowaste needs to be disposed of in the big boxes labeled “medical waste” (in the closet room, extras in the Autoclave room).

Once the boxes under the hoods are full, take the bags out and tie them shut by the corners (push most of the air out). Stick a sticker on the outside of the bag that says “Princeton University; Princeton, NJ, 08542.” These orange stickers are in the closet room with the medical waste boxes and extras are in the autoclave room. If the two bags fit together in the box without bending the box, both can be put in one box. Tape the top (and bottom) of the box shut by folding opposing sides together and taping with packing tape (i.e. don’t fold it such that you cross every panel over its neighbor). Put a sticker label on the outside of the box with the lab #, contact person, date, etc. (same place as the other stickers). Then leave the boxes outside in the hallway for the janitors collect.

The weight of the filled box should not exceed 30 lbs.
