The map settings of Cruiser can be accessed via [ Main ] > "Settings" > "Map".

Show direction in compass

  • Activated - The direction your device is currently pointed to is shown below the compass [1] on the screen.
  • Deactivated - The compass just shows the magnetic needle [2].

Zoom with volume keys

  • Activated - The map zoom in Cruiser can be additionally increased/decreased with the physical volume keys/buttons of your device. The zoom buttons in the main UI of course work also with this setting activated.
  • Deactivated - Map zoom with the volume keys/buttons is not possible.

Map orientation

The "Map orientation" setting determines how the map is oriented during navigation or in follow mode. Cruiser offers a few different options to adapt to personal preferences, which are:

  • "Movement direction" - The map is dynamically rotated in the direction of travel, so that the current direction of travel always points upwards; this can be displayed in either a flat 2D view or a perspective 3D view.
  • "Compass direction" - Orients the map according to the viewing direction or compass direction determined by the device sensor, regardless of the actual direction of travel; also optionally in 2D or 3D.
  • "North is up" - Fixes the map to (true) north, so the map area moves, but the orientation remains constant.

Map > Layers

Hillshading

  • Activated - Hillshading data is displayed.
  • Deactivated - No hillshading information is displayed.

Note

To display hillshading, the data needs to be downloaded first in [ Main ] > "Settings" > "Map" > "Offline maps" > three-dot-menu of the map you want to download hillshading data > "Download hillshading"

Hillshading magnitude

Defines the intensity of the displayed hillshading.

  • Possible range: 0-255

3D buildings

Defines if and how 3D buildings should be displayed. Available options are:

  • "Normal"
  • "Advanced" (incl. additional colors)
  • "Off"

Map > Appearance

Map

  • "Icon size" - Display size of the icons on the map; possible range 80-200 %
  • "Font size" - Font size of map descriptions/names; possible range 80-200 %
  • "Line width" - Width of lines on the map; possible range 80-200 %

Markers

  • "Icon size" - Display size of the icons on markers; possible range 80-200 %
  • "Font size" - Font size of marker descriptions/names; possible range 80-200 %

High contrast

  • Activated - The map is displayed with increased contrast colors.
  • Deactivated - The map is shown using the default colors of the used map theme.

Group icons on the map (zoom)

When activated, icons (POI, ...) which are located close together are displayed in groups to not clutter the map view.

  • Possible range: Off; 8-20

Map > Advanced

Map rendering

Defines the priority of the map rendering. Options are:

  • "Performance" - Lower quality, but smoother displaying/scrolling.
  • "Quality" - Higher quality, potentially weaker performance.

Map rendering engine

  • "Mapsforge" - 2D view only, compatible with OpenAndroMaps and Freizeitkarte.
  • "VTM (OpenGL)" - 3D view with stepless zoom levels.
