Zani Empire

The Empire of the Zani, or the Geallian Empire (Zawalonnu Gealian : Imperial Zanic), was one of the largest and most influential empires in the history of Omniluxia. The successor to the the regional Eagelian Kingdom (Shanuzteu Eageli : Eageli) founded by Sumun the Great, Zanis the Great founded the empire after executing a coup against the last King, proclaiming himself Emperor of the Eagelians, and later Emperor of the Geallians.

A primarily human realm, the Empire stretched from Rohevia to Western Werhen, ruling over between 24 million to 32 million souls including Dwarves, Elves, and Dragkhans. It later split into the western Nazani Empire and eastern Razani Empire.

The Founding of the Empire

Following the death of Sumun the Great, the Eagelian Kingdom had fallen into a slow decline as the Four Bad Kings took their turns on the throne. Either too weak or too tyrannical to rule, by the fourth King, the incompetent Dbunnpun the Fat, most of the citizenry and the nobility had had enough. The Kingdom was only being held together by the strong martial tradition of its citizen-soldiers, who were probably the best-trained and most experienced soldiers in Eagelia.

At around 41 LC there begin to appear records of the return of Zanis Zani, the future emperor of the Geallians, who used his noble status and influence to get himself appointed as Marshal of the Royal Army, where he would make allies, gain the loyalty of his men, and gain experience fighting other Geallian tribes. By 44 LC Zanis had enough allies in the court and among the citizenry to commence a plot against the King, whose apathy towards his position made it much easier to sway possible loyalist to Zanis' cause. By the time the King was alerted of the plot he no longer had any allies powerful enough to oppose Zanis, who swiftly executed the tyrant king and declared himself King of the Eagelians.

Early Expansions and the Death of Zanis

The Eagelian Kingdom at the time was one of many tribes and Kingdoms that were a part of the Geallian League, a loose alliance meant to defend against outside invaders. Notably, the city-state of Gevanni was one of the Kingdom's few allies, securing their city autonomy in the growing Kingdom's realm. Using his Kingdom's superior military strength to his advantage as well as utilizing his spies and diplomats well, Zanis was able to either conquer or vassalize the majority of the Eagelian states along the Zonn River and Northern Marenican Coast by 46 LC.

With much of the league distracted with wars against the Ytalians, Intermarenicans, or Baetepians, the Eagelians managed to subdue the various Geallian peoples including the Gunstris, Verne, Uzurne, Opunnen, and Zonstrise under their banner. Knowing that difficulty of making his new subjects accept a foreign ruler, Dbunnpun was partially unpopular since he was an Uzurne after all, Zanis set up colonies of loyal Eagelians into newly conquered territory to pacify the local population, a trend that will continue as he continues his conquests outside of Eagelia. Having conquered most of Eagelia and Northern Ytalia by 49 LC, Zanis turned his attention to the Ytalians to his south that had begun raiding his territory.

The Empire of the Zani was named after Zanis the great of the Eagelian kingdom, who united the Geallians with his loyal soldier Cyrogelos of the Ytalians to march west.

Over time the Geallians adopted a more Pan-Geallian identity, which can be turned into the Zanic culture if you reunite the Zani Empire
