Backup and Restore of Delphix Engine metadata include only metadata related to objects and not Delphix Engine data or configuration itself. Dxtoolkit can backup users, polices, templates and operation templates and generate a scripts to recreate other objects like environments, dSources and VDB’s.

Advantages:

  1. Can be used in multiple scenarios including DR, failover and migration.
  2. No extra engine required to backup metadata.
  3. Metadata Backup can be done on live engine.
  4. Metadata Backup can be scheduled easily.
  5. Backups can be stored and maintained from non-Delphix server.
  6. Restores can be done from any available backup.
  7. Each backup is structured into directory and sub-directories.

Limitations:

  1. Rebuild metadata and objects from scratch. No old data or snapshots will be restored.
  2. Masked VDBs are not supported with restore process.
  3. The Staging-Source windows environment sequence is not maintained while backup and restoring windows environments.
