Updates and Beta - dckiller51/astrion-custom-dashboard GitHub Wiki
After the first install, no cable is needed any more: the remote updates itself from GitHub Releases.
The remote checks for new versions by itself. When one is out:
- On the remote: a line at the top of Settings says Update available: v1.x.y. Tap it.
-
In the builder (
http://<remote-ip>:8080/builder/): the header shows your version and an Install this official update button.
The remote downloads the new version and opens Android's installer: confirm with Install.
First time only: Android asks to allow "Install unknown apps" for Astrion Custom. Allow it, go back, and start the update again. After that, it's two taps.
Your dashboard, devices and settings are kept: an update replaces only the app.
The beta gets fixes and new features before they reach an official release. It's updated often, sometimes several times a day while something is being tested.
- Every change on the
devbranch is published as the pre-releasedev-latest, replaced at each new push. - The beta is a separate app (
com.custom.astrion.debug) installed next to the official one. No need to uninstall either to switch. - It has its own settings: the first time, set up Home Assistant and your devices again. Restore a backup to get your dashboard.
- The official updater never installs a beta by itself.
- From the builder: tick Also the beta (dev) in the header, then Install this beta update.
-
Or manually: download the APK from the
dev-latestrelease and install it (adb, or open it on the remote).
Then pick which app is the launcher: on the next press of Home, Android asks. Pick the beta to test it, or the official app to go back.
Keep Also the beta ticked in the beta's own builder. It offers each new beta build, by comparing the build's date with the installed one. On the remote, Settings shows Beta available.
Choose the official app as the launcher again (Android Settings › Apps › Default apps › Home). You can uninstall the beta: adb uninstall com.custom.astrion.debug, or from Android's app list.
Every version is described in the CHANGELOG, and announced on Discord.
Found a bug in the beta? Please open an issue with the version (Settings › About) and the logs (http://<remote-ip>:8080/logs). That's what the beta is for 🙏
