IR Extenders - dckiller51/astrion-custom-dashboard GitHub Wiki
An IR extender is a small Wi-Fi infrared blaster you place next to your devices: inside a TV cabinet, in another room, behind closed doors. Astrion sends it the IR codes over the network and it fires them. No hub, no Home Assistant, no cloud.
Firmware and build guide: astrion-ir-extender (ESP-based).
- Flash and set up the extender (see its project page) and note its IP and MAC address. Both are on the extender's own web page: open
http://<its-ip>/and look for Mac Address. - On the remote's web page › IR Extenders › + Add extender:
- Name: e.g. Living room cabinet;
- IP address or hostname;
-
MAC address, e.g.
2C:B4:71:FF:C7:98.
- Save.
The MAC address is the extender's permanent identity. IR devices refer to it by an id derived from the MAC, so you can rename it, change its IP, or remove and re-add it later without breaking anything.
On IR Devices, edit the device › Where should this device's commands actually get sent from? › pick the extender › Save device.
Every tile, hotkey and Activity using that device now goes through the extender.
Current limit: only devices referenced from the IR database can use an extender. Hand-pasted codes always use the remote's own blaster.
- Give the extender a fixed IP, or use its hostname.
- One extender can drive every device in a cabinet. Point it at the IR receivers, or use stick-on IR emitters if your build has them.
- Several extenders are fine: one per room or cabinet.
| Symptom | Check |
|---|---|
| "Another extender already uses that MAC address" | You added it twice: edit the existing one instead. |
| Nothing happens | Can the remote reach the extender's IP? Is the device set to use this extender? Is it an IR-database device? |
| Works from the extender's page, not from Astrion | Check the remote's logs (http://<remote-ip>:8080/logs) for "NOT SENT" lines. |
