NOTE: If at any point you are having troubles logging in, fetching messaging data, or fetching profile data, then try refreshing the page. This will most likely fix all the issues going on. If this still does not fix the issues, Notis is most likely slowing down due to too many active users.
If you do not already have a Nostr Key Pair, we recommend you use our built-in private key generator.
Using Notis to Generate a New Key Pair
At login, simply press generate private key, which will bring up a popup window with your new private key. At this point, you must save it somewhere. Losing your private key means losing access to your account. We recommend you copy it from the popup and save it in a password manager.
Once you've saved your private key, simply press Login to login with that key and begin using the App!
Using the Drawer
Once you enter Notis, you can press the icon in the upper left corner to access the drawer at any point. This will provide access to the different pages in the app including Settings, Chats, and Contacts. You can also Log our from the drawer.
Editing and Sharing Your Profile
Visiting the Settings page allows you to edit your public information. This includes a name, a biography, a profile image, and a profile banner image. The name and bio can be anything you want them to be. The image and banner fields must be links to images stored on the web in order for them to work. You cannot upload images to Notis.
There are also ways to share your profile from within the settings page. You can easily copy your public key and share it with your friends. Alternatively, you can shore your QR code with your friends, which allows them to easily copy your public key.
REMEMBER: You you NEVER want to share your private key! Only your public key
Adding Contacts
Visiting the Contacts page allows you to add new contacts to begin chatting. Simply press the + icon in the bottom right corner to bring up a popup window with fields to enter their public key, and an optional nickname. The key must be valid or else you will not be able to add the contact. Once a contact is added, it will immediately appear in your contacts list. Pressing on this contact opens a contact settings page. On this page, you can easily edit their nickname, copy their public key, block, or delete the contact. Blocking the contact will block their messages from appearing on your Chats page. Deleting the contact will remove it from your Contacts page.
Messaging
If you would like to begin messaging your contacts, simply visit the Contacts page, press a contact, and then press Messages to visit the messaging screen. This will allow you to begin sending messages. Type anything in the message field and press enter to send. At this point, the chat between you and that contact should appear on your Chats page.
If at any point you receive a message from someone who is not in your contacts, the messaging screen provides two options to handle that messaging history. From the messaging screen, you can press Edit Contact to edit the contact of the person you are messaging. Alternatively, you can block the contact by pressing Block.
