Deprecated 00. Getting an HPCC account - davidaray/Genomes-and-Genome-Evolution GitHub Wiki
In order to participate in this class, you will need an account on HPCC. Complete this by August 27, 2022.. We will begin completing HPCC-based exercises on August 30.
To get this account go to https://www.depts.ttu.edu/hpcc/accounts/studentrequest.php. Do this ASAP.
Click 'Agree'.
Fill out the required fields.
Department = your home department (for most of you, this will be Biological Sciences)
Faculty/Staff Contact = Undergrads, use my name 'David Ray'. Grad students, use your advisor's name.
Faculty/Staff Contact Email = Undergrads, use [email protected]. Grad students, use your advisor's e-mail.
Faculty/Staff Contact Phone = Undergrads, use 806-834-1677. Grad students, use your advisor's phone.
After submitting that form, I (or your graduate advisor) will get an approval message. Once approved, you will have your account.
On campus, you can connect to HPCC directly. Sometimes though, you'll want to connect from home or elsewhere off campus. This is always a good idea but is especially true in the current pandemic and because it's just nice to sit in bed and do this sometimes.
Off campus, you need to connect to a secure VPN first. Instructions to do so are available at: http://portal.reg.ttu.edu/vpn/index.html.
You will also need two factor authentication if you are logging in from off campus: https://askit.ttu.edu/sp?id=kb_article_view&sysparm_article=KB0029248.
-
Download and install the software.
-
Enable two factor authentication if you need to.
-
Connect to the VPN server when you want to log in to HPCC. If asked, you will need to use port 22.
