The CASPER Workshop 2014 is over! Thank you all who attended and made this a wonderful week. The following below is for historic purposes. Please note that pdf/powerpoint versions of many of the presentations are available via the Agenda below.

The CASPER collaboration workshop in Berkeley will take place from June 9th-13th 2014 at the Univeristy of California Berkeley.Please consider booking your accommodation as soon as possible to get the best possible deal.

We will have talks in the morning, and in the afternoon you can go the lab to learn the tutorials (build a spectrometer, correlator, learn how to talk over 10Gbe to a GPU...), or to working groups, (typical working groups will be pulsar/transient/spectrometer instruments, correlators and beamformers, next generation FPGA and ADC boards, next generation tools and libraries, VLBI instruments, MKID instruments...). Labs with CASPER hardware and software will be in the Radio Astronomy Lab, Evans Hall.

Flights

The closest airports to Berkeley, are Oakland (OAK), and San Francisco (SFO). OAK is about 30 minutes away by BART subway, and SFO is about an hour by BART subway. See http://bart.gov for schedule and info to get to Berkeley from the airports. For OAK, you need to take a $3 shuttle to the BART station, and you need an exact amount (no change given). The closest BART station to the university is the "Downtown Berkeley" station, also called "Berkeley."

Places to Stay

1) There's a relatively inexpensive place to stay, at the Foothill Dorm, a 7 minute walk to the conference. Costs are $78 per night single occupancy including breakfast, $56 per night double occupancy. If you would like to stay there, please email [email protected] as we have to book this and pay for this for you. We need to know this in the next week or so. Please let us know which nights you want to stay, and and whether you want single or double occupancy, and what the probability is that you will stay there (and reemburse us). When you arrive, you will need to reemburse us via check made out to the regents of the University of California, or cash (we also might be able to collect payment via credit card, but we'll have to charge 3% more).

2) The cheapest places to stay is the piedmont hostel, about a 20 minute walk to campus, $55 for private room (shared bath), $32 for dorm room. funky but cheap - appropriate for students or those on a low budget.

3) If you book at a Berkeley hotel, be sure to tell them you are coming for a CASPER conference at the university, and ask for a university discount: you might want to use kayak.com or other hotel web sites:

Berkeley Inn, $69 per night, about 2 miles from conference, funky 1 star hotel.

French Hotel, 20 minute walk, nice. They have special rate for UC Berkeley which is $95 for a queen size bed ($10 discount) each night.

Bancroft Hotel, 20 minute walk, nice. They offer UCB rates at $129.

Hotel Shattuck Plaza, 15 minute walk, very nice. The discount code is UOFC10. The rate is based on availability and currently at $169 per room per night.

Durant Hotel, $169, 15 minute walk, very nice.

The Brown Shingle Bed & Breakfast. Faculty home with 3 rooms available. Rates are $90 to $140, and it's a short walk to the university. http://www.brownshingle.com

On Thursday 12th June, Mathworks will be running two MATLAB technical seminars at UC Berkeley, which CASPER attendees may be interested in. Details are given below. Note that these seminars are not affiliated with the CASPER workshop itself.

Image Processing and Computer Vision with MATLAB

9:00am – 11:00am at Kroeber Hall, Room 160

Signal Processing with MATLAB

1:00pm – 3:00pm at LeConte Hall, Room 3

Learn how to acquire, analyze and visualize time-based signals and spectra with MATLAB and the Signal Processing Toolbox.
