Lodging
We have contracted rates at two hotels, and give a reference to a recommended B&B booking service. The table below summarizes the hotels and their features. Please note that in the case of the hotels it is possible to request a pair of beds and for two attendees to share a room, splitting the room cost, which is the same for double occupancy.
Hotel | Phone | Price | Details |
---|---|---|---|
Sheraton Commander | $159 | Located in Harvard Square, an easy 8 minute walk to the CfA. Can make booking directly using the web link provided below. | |
Best Western Tria | $150 | Less centrally located, perhaps a 15 minute walk to the conference venue. The hotel provides a shuttle bus service, and is on the MBTA 74 and 78 bus lines. | |
Bettinas | 617-497-9166 | $75 | A bed and breakfast service with a wide variety of options. |
Here is a weblink which allows making block rate reservations at the Sheraton directly:

To get the contracted rate of $149.95 per room, contact the Tria and mention the CASPER room block.

Bed and Breakfast Booking Service:
Bettina Network, P.O. Box 380585, Cambridge, MA 02238 617-497-9166, 800-347-9166
There is not contracted rate here, but Bettinas said they had rooms for $75/night and up. Keep in mind that Bettina's book for many different B&Bs so please ask questions about the specific location of the room they are booking for you, convenience to Harvard and public transportation. Feel free to contact the CfA organizers if you have questions.
Finally we have just been made aware that the Doubletree Guest Suites in Boston is offering very good rates, around $100, for Harvard events. It's a very nice hotel, but some distance from Harvard Square and the CfA--might be 1/2 hour walking briskly. This may be a good option for those who are well oriented to the area. The link below will allow you to access the special Harvard rate, there is no contract here.

Transportation
To get to Cambridge from Boston Logan International Airport (BOS), take the MBTA Silver Line and transfer at South Station to the Red Line inbound to Harvard Square. The hotel Tria is closer the the Alewife T stop at the end of the Red Line. Information of the MBTA can be found at http://www.mbta.com. If you predict you are going to use the MBTA a lot, we suggest you purchase a seven day pass when you board at the airport.
For those driving from relatively nearby locations, a limited number of parking passes for the CfA lot will be available for $10 each (daily rate).
