At CASPER Workshop 2008, the Next-Gen HW/Tools/Collaboration working group determined that an overhaul of the current MSSGE/bee_xps toolflow was needed to help ease the learning curve for those interested in contributing to its development and maintenance. This will occur in preparation of a complete rewrite of the toolflow to move away from the current Matlab/Simulink-based abstraction model.

Short-term Cleanup

The cleanup will begin with the 10.1 version of the toolflow.

• Better documentation
• Easier to understand

• Modularize gen_xps_files processes
• Update all pcores to EDK 10.1 notation
• Update stable pcores to "preferred/stable" EDK support
• Central pcore repository with conditional copying into project
• Standardize XPS class objects

Long-term Rewrite

Goals

• Decentralize role of Matlab/Simulink
• Easier to instantiate cores from different sources (user HDL, SysGen, etc.)
