1. What are the differences between KSmoothDock and other docks such as Latte Dock or Docky, Cairo Dock, Plank?

The main differences are:

• KSmoothDock focuses on having a smooth parabolic zooming effect.
• KSmoothDock focuses on being simple and easy to use. For example, to change the background transparency on KSmoothDock, you can just right click and set the transparency level in the Settings dialog. To keep it simple, KSmoothDock is not planning to integrate with Plasma widgets nor support addons/plugins.
• KSmoothDock also tries to improve lackluster virtual desktop support in KDE Plasma 5 such as adding the ability to set different wallpapers for different desktops.

The differences are more of a personal taste though, so one might like one or the other.

2. Does KSmoothDock run on other Linux desktop environments?

KSmoothDock depends on Qt 5 and KDE Frameworks 5 only so it does run on other desktop environments such as Xfce or Cinnamon.

However, some features are currently only implemented for KDE Plasma 5, such as:

• Setting different wallpapers for different desktops
• Some of the application menu's special items (search, log out, reboot etc.) are tied to KDE Plasma 5's services.

Also, KSmoothDock is only tested on KDE Plasma 5.
