Standard installation

  • Navigate to the Source Forge site . Click the green Download button to download of the installer file ChessForge.msi.

 

  • Run the downloaded file by double-clicking it, or by selecting Install from the right-click context menu.
  • Once the installation is complete, start Chess Forge by double clicking its desktop icon or searching for it in your Windows Start menu.

Windows and Browser Warnings

Although the application is digitally signed, Windows and/or your browser may still issue warnings.

For example, if you are using the Edge browser you may see the following warning first

where you need to click the triple-dot symbol and select Keep from the list of options that appears.

Here, a warning may appear again:

 

where you click Show More and then choose Keep Anyway.

Once you have downloaded the distribution despite the browser's objection and start the installation, this message appears:

 

Click More Info and then select Run Anyway.

Portable Installation

  • Navigate to the Files folder on the Source Forge site .
  • Select the subfolder with the latest version number and choose one of the two distributions:
    • The package named SourceForgeFull.zip contains all required components, including the Stockfish engine.
    • The package named SourceForge.zip contains the same components except for the engine, making it much smaller.
  • Unzip the package in a folder of your choice and run ChessForge.exe.

With this method, you can run Chess Forge from anywhere, including a USB drive, where the program and all its data are stored.

Here, Windows may display a warning that you are running an application from an "unknown source".
