Finding Games - czbar/ChessForge GitHub Wiki

To find games meeting specific criteria, use the Find Games function (green below) in the Edit menu (red below):

Specify the required criteria:

  • Players - use White or Black boxes (red below) to nominate players' names that played a specific side. If you are interested in player's game regardless of the side use Ignore Colors tick box (orange below). In our example we search for all games where Fischer played White (red below)
  • Moves - use min and max boxes to look for games that lasted for the specific moves range. In our example, we will search for games that lasted 20 moves or less (green below)
  • Eco - use from and to boxes to look for games with specific openings. In our example, we will search for games with openings that have ECO codes starting from "B" (yellow below).
  • Result - specify if you want to see games that ended in White's win, Black's win, draw or others. In our example we will search only for Fischer's wins (blue below)
  • Years - use from and to boxes to look for games played within specified year range. In our example, we will search for games played in 1964 or later (dark purple below). If some games have no year assigned, you can use the Include unspecified box to decide if such games are always included

Chess Forge opens the list of found games. In our example, the system found 6 games in 1 chapter (green below). If you want to work on those games further use Select to Copy or Move button (red below):

In the Select Items to Copy or Move box you can further limit the listed games by deselecting the boxes on the left. In our example, we exclude games in which Alekhine's Defence (B04) was played (red below):

Finally, use the Copy or Move buttons (blue above) to choose whether the games remain in the original chapter, then press OK (purple above). In our example we move the games from the original chapter (dark blue above):

In the Select Target Chapter dialog choose the chapter to copy or move the games to (red below) or use the Create New Chapter button (green below). Note that our workbook currently has one chapter, so the list of chapters to move the games to is empty (red below):

Chapter 2 containing 5 games has been created (green below). Chapter 1 which originally had 827 games, now contains 822 games (red below):

You can edit the Chapter Header to assign a more meaningful name (green below):
