Assigning ECOs to Chapter Items - czbar/ChessForge GitHub Wiki

You can assign Encyclopedia of Chess Openings (ECO) codes to Intros, Studies, Games and Exercises across chapters. To assign an ECO to a specific game, open the game. To assign ECOs to all Exercises in a chapter, open any view in that chapter. Assigning ECOs across the entire workbook can be done from any place in the workbook.

In our example, Chapter 1 contains 10 games (blue below) and Chapter 2 contains 5 games (purple below). We will assign ECOs to all games in Chapter 1. Make sure Chapter 1 is active, the black arrow will indicate it (green below). Then run the Assign ECOs function from the Chapter menu (red below):

In the Assign ECOs dialog, select:

  • Scope, which determines across which chapters the function will be applied
  • Item Type, which determines which types of items are affected (Intro, Study, Games, Exercises).

Both are interrelated, and the system may grey out some combinations. For example, if Scope is Current Chapter, all item types are available for selection. If Scope is Current View and the function is run after opening a specific Exercise, all item types are greyed out, with Exercise checked and the other three types unchecked.

In our example, We select the Scope as Current Chapter and Item Type as Games (green below) and press the OK button (red below):

The system assigned ECO codes (red below) to all games in Chapter 1 (blue below), while games in Chapter 2 remain without ECOs (purple below):
