Build an App for Cytoscape Web

You do not need the Cytoscape Web source code to build an app. There are two types of apps:

Module Federation apps run inside Cytoscape Web and call the App API from JavaScript or TypeScript. They can add panels, menu items and context menu actions. Start with Developing Apps for Cytoscape Web, which has the quick start (npm create cytoscape-app), the developer guides, the API reference and the example apps.
Service apps are web services. Cytoscape Web sends them network or table data and applies the result they return. See the Specification for Service App in Cytoscape Web.

To fix bugs in Cytoscape Web or add features to it:

Core Developer's Guide covers setup, architecture, testing and debugging, and links to the rest of the contributor documentation.
Contributing to Cytoscape Web explains branches, pull requests and code style.

The previous version of this page, last updated in April 2025, is kept for reference as Cytoscape Web Developer Tutorial (Archived 2025-04). It no longer matches the code.
